Job Description: Payroll Specialist

THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Payroll Specialist will work with Finance and Human Resources colleagues to ensure the efficient and compliant processing of payroll.

Reports to: Director of Finance & Administration
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Payroll
- Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
- Identifies and recommends updates to payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficient with payroll software.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required
- At least three to five years of related experience required.
- Experience with payroll systems required; experience with ADP Workforce Now experience strongly preferred
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements and ability to keep up to date with latest trends.
- Proactive and solutions-oriented with experience working in ambiguity
- Proficiency in use of systems, tools, and processes including comfort with Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and HRIS systems
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
