Provide administrative and patient care support to assigned clinic in the Department of Medicine. Assist in coordinating patient flow throughout the clinic, from registration to discharge. Work as a member of the Ambulatory Care clinic team to provide smooth outpatient flow resulting in optimum patient satisfaction and clinic operation. Act as Lead Administrative Staff to assigned area, to include coordination of daily operations, implementation of system goals and protocols and training of staff. Incumbent oversees administrative operations for the heart transplant evaluation process and works closely with advance practice nurses to coordinate communication with patients and families. Responsibilities include coordinating the complex heart transplant evaluation process, obtaining insurance authorizations, supervising cash collections, entering patient into heart transplant database, maintaining registry of referring physicians, facilitating communication with referring physicians of diagnostic testing evaluation status, and triaging phone calls. Incumbent directly supervises career AA II or AA III positions. Incumbent will provide coverage as needed to the Cardiovascular Center Admin. Specialist with training front desk staff on encounter registration, authorizations and co-payment collection and special projects as assigned. Work is assigned and reviewed by the Director of Transplant Services/Clinical Director. The incumbent is expected to work independently in providing information, scheduling appointments and admissions, adjust for changes in scheduling appointments and admissions, adjust for changes in schedule and in dealing with high volume, complex, high risk patient activity. Salary Range: $60,800.00/annually-$134,200.00/annually
Required: * Demonstrated knowledge of insurance authorization and verification process * Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, and procedures; identify patterns and tendencies, formulate logical and objective conclusions, and recognize alternatives and their implications * Skill in speaking with persons of various backgrounds to obtain information * Reliability to work as part of team and establish cooperative working relationships with administrators, physician, peers, and the public * Ability to set priorities and complete assignments in a timely manner under minimal supervision * Experience with varied computer software and hardware including word-processing, knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and MCCS (PDM and ADT) system * Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 codes * Skill in adapting to and implementing frequently changing registration procedures * Skill in establishing and implementing goals * Working knowledge of medical terminology * Working knowledge of third party payor verification terminology to determine benefit eligibility and interpretation of coverage Preferred: * Demonstrated knowledge of medical office procedures, including scheduling of appointments * Knowledge of State and Federal programs to ensure reimbursement from Medicare, Medi-Cal, CCS programs, out of state Medicaid or other sponsoring agencies
