Job Description


Under supervision, the Engineering Assistant applies technical engineering/drafting techniques in the preparation electrical engineering drawings of streetlight and electrical distribution installation, maintenance and proposed improvements, as-built documentation and other graphic material using software products such as AutoCAD, GIS, and CMMS systems. Work accurately and in compliance with drafting standards.

Essential functions of the class include:

  • Prepares streetlight and electrical distribution plans, specifications, and documents using computer-aided software products such as AutoCAD, Map 3D, etc., in compliance with engineering drafting standards.
  • Collects and calculates field and departmental data needed for the preparation of designs and drawings.
  • Assists in the preparation of cost and quantity estimates for engineering projects and site investigations.
  • Processes contractor construction shop submittals. through logging, transcribing and filing of materials
  • Indexes, reproduces, and maintains engineering documents stored in databases or spreadsheets in hard copy form.
  • Applies mathematical and other engineering computations as required in the course of performing work.
  • Receive outages and related problems from the general public through 311 and other City agencies; generate report of street lighting outages for CCSF and PG&E schedule streetlights.
  • Monitors and responds to department email inquiries for dotMaps system to address Notice of Intent (NOI) requests.
  • Assist in the retrieval of Underground Service Alert notification via email using AutoCAD Map/GIS for streetlight location verification and ownership.
  • Assigns asset identification for physical assets accepted by the Power Enterprise.
  • Operates and replaces media on equipment used in the course of performing work.
  • Prepares memos, letters, and field reports in the course of performing work.
  • May drive a vehicle to and from work sites.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications


1. Two years of verified electrical technical engineering drafting experience using computer-aided software products such as AutoCAD, Map 3D, Civil 3D and/or Revit, to prepare engineering drawings and other engineering graphic material. This experience must have been obtained within the last five (5) years.

2. Possession of a valid California driver license.

Substitution: Possession of a Certificate of Completion in drafting or Computer-Aided Drafting from an accredited college or technical/vocational school may be substituted for six (6) months of the two years of required experience.
